If you're a fan of the reality TV Show Top Chef, then you may very well soon become a fan of Revolver Restaurant in Findlay, Ohio.
On April 24, Revolver is hosting Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard. There are two seatings at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. for a 5 course meal made by the celebrity chef. Reservations are $95 per person.
Not to brag, but FD and I will be in attendance, and I'm planning on wearing one of my best Orla Kiely dresses from the Grey Colt for this very special event.

Apart from this special event, consider Revolver for your dining group, family birthday party, special gathering, or for just a superb meal out. I recently had a very special dinner at Revolver with some very special friends, and breaking Revolver's very tasty salt rolls and sharing such thoughtfully prepared local foods with my friends in such a comfortable and fun environment made us all feel even closer.
As we hear in the news and in our conversations with others, the economy isn't great, but it doesn't mean we need to change what we value in our lives. If you value good food and independent businesses now is the time to support them or they won't be around when the economy "changes." Bypass that Mickey D's you get a couple times a month and save up your Starbucks change, and I bet you'll have enough for a solid meal at Revolver or a local farmer's leg of lamb. Just some food for thought!

♪ "Weather the Weather" ♪
Not only am I fan of The Postmarks song "Weather the Weather," I also am a fan of the weather.So much so that I've actually considered "going back to school" to become a meteorologist.
This week at BGSU's annual Learning Fair hosted by the Study Skills Center, I was beyond ecstatic to meet the one & only "Blizzard" Bill Spencer, Toledo's fabulous local meteorologist.
Blizzard Bill talked with first-year students about his job experiences and shared with them the benefits of "not giving up, no matter what." I was kinda jealous of the way the students were memorized by him. If only I had that kind of magic in the classroom...However, my spouse has been been sucked up into a tornado and I've been the only person in a tv station during a tornado.
As you can see, tornadoes played a big part in his presentation.
Here are some other highlights I jotted down:
On moving from ABC from NBC: "They're into theme parks, not strip malls."
Why Toledo: "Because Toledo is where the weather action is."
On his first wife: "A tornado sucked my first wife into its funnel. After that our relationship was never the same."
On chasing tornadoes: "Being on scene 30 seconds after a tornado is the one memory that stays with me. Seeing people's lives spread all around the neighborhood and them crying, devastated by their losses, motivates me to be the best weatherman I can be."
His talk was the highlight of my week, especially because the weather has been so boring here: sunny and 70s every day.
I could use a good storm.
Some local weather drama would be nice.

American Idol: A Facebook Convo Between Me & Theresa Williams--Maybe Idol's Two Biggest Fans*
My Facebook status: Amanda McRz fears that Brooke from Idol is going home, and that makes me really sad...
Theresa: "Yes, I think Brooke is probably going home. It was a good show tonight though, wasn't it? I wasn't sure how it would work out with the show tunes, but they all did all right. I didn't think any of them had their "best" night, unless it was Syesha's best night. She quite surprised me. I thought Jason did better than Simon said he did, but it wasn't the best song he could have chosen. Yet there were moments in the song that were quite tender and lovely, nearly heartbreaking. I thought David Cook's performance a bit odd. Very soft until the end when he let his wonderfully gravelly voice take over. It was kind of pretty, but overall it didn't quite work for me."
Me: "I agree on all counts of Idol. I'm thinking that even though Syesha had her best performance, she still might go home in the next few weeks. She proved theater is her thing; America wants a pop star...I thought Jason did much better too than Simon said. I wish he would have put a Jack Johnson spin on this song, though, like David A did. I think then he would have totally kicked David A's ass! David A. put his pop ballad spin in it, and as sick I am of it, he's still my pick to win. America loves his bashfulness and strong voice. America needs more power pop ballads by males, apparently. David C...how I adore his rock stuff, but last night's performance was too much like a pedophile singing; it creeped me out. Totally. He's safe, though. Then there's my poor Brooke. She's been my personal fav since auditions. The one I've wanted to win. I love her voice and the style of her singing, but a do-over isn't cool, esp live. It'll be Brooke or Jason. But my pick is Brooke."
* Sorry my post isn't my usual rant, but the only ranting I have in me deals with grading...

Oh My Goodness, So Much to Post, and So Little Time.
We've been back from Utah for about five days, and this is the first chance I've had to blog about it.It's just one of those semesters.
We saw Logan, Provo, Park City, and Salt Lake City during FD's mini-book-tour in support of Neck of the World.
Utah is gorgeous! Check out my photo journal of our trip on Flickr.
The highlights for me were FD's interview on Utah Public Radio (a dream come true--This American Life, here we come!), FD's reading in Logan, our side-trip to Park City (where the Sundance Film Festival is held), the Butterfly Reading mobile in the Salt Lake City Library (the MOST beautiful library I have EVER seen and maybe my all-time favorite architecture), and dinner at Metropolitan.
Our trip wouldn't have been half as great as it was if not for the company of our fellow Monopoly competitor Mr. Nate!
And I'd like to thank all of those who hosted us, drove us around, or kept us in good company: Susan, Star, Micheal and Sylvia, Micheal, and Hui-Hui.

Guess Who Has a Camera Crew?!?
You missed me yesterday, didn't you?
I was super-busy filming my intro-to-essay short videos for my online class on campus. I recorded six total, and whoever tells you that acting is a breeze, they're lying! It's exhausting work! It's hard to be on all the time. My Academy winning roles included a regular teacher, a reader, a Monopoly player, a blogger, and a very serious interviewer--all of which who wore a fabulous outfit. (Oh, you'll see the it all once the films go through final edit.)
Move over, Jennifer Hudson! Here comes the new "it" girl.
I jest a bit, but, in all seriousness, I did have a two-man camera crew with me as we walked across campus from my office to the Union and from the Union to the Library. How could I NOT feel a little bit celeb?! And to boot, my camera/audio team were the BOMB--two funny guys who were great conversationalists between takes and all business during takes! A shout out to Terence and Mike! And to FD for his guest appearance! And, most importantly, to Mary Ann Robinson who talked about domestic violence in Wood County and really opened my eyes!

Hereeeeeeee's Stokey!
Stokley’s back, back again! Good morning everybody. D keeps tagging me; however, as of yet I have no place to put my tags so I am forcing her to let me do another guest post. Away we go!
Random stuff about Stokes.
1. I talk to myself – a lot. It is more of a thinking out loud kind of thing. I never answer myself, really, but I talk to myself nonetheless. People here at work already think I am insane considering I wear rain galoshes and have a Dwight bobblehead on my desk. I am guessing this little habit of mine is not helping to dispel the rumors about my sanity.
2. I name everything. I think naming objects gives them personality. My friends all know what I am talking about when I refer to Penny, Betsy, Henry, Milo and Jeeves.
3. There are 3 things that will make me lose it, and by lose it I mean go absolutely b-a-n-a-n-a-s. 1. Shushing me, I am not a child, do not shush me. 2. Do not point your finger at me, unless you are pointing me out to an attractive, strapping young buck. 3. Do not use my name when scolding me, eg. “Now, Stokes, did you really think it was a good idea to run over that huge thing in the middle of the road that led to tearing out Henry’s steering column?”
4. I do not think girls should be sideline reporters for professional male sports. Clearly a feminist I am not. I just do not think they can understand the inter-workings of the game or the physicality of it all. I do not think boys should be gynos either though because they do not have a cookie and how can they really know what is going on when they do not have one.
5. I truly believe I was born in the wrong decade; I should have been born in 1945. To grow up in an era of housecoats, sock hops, soda jerks, courting and parlors would have been the bee’s knees!! Perhaps this is why I conform to traditional gender roles without hesitation.
6. I talk about Fletcher James like he is a person and not a dog. For example, when I purchased FJ a tartan plaid collar I told people that he began walking around with his nose in the air and that he asked for penny loafers, a shirt with a collar he could pop and a girlfriend named Buffy. Now, clearly I know he didn’t actually say or do any of that stuff, but it makes for a funny story. Some people find it odd and inquire on whether or not my dog really talks to me. Um, no, he does not.
7. I am completely obsessive about the lamest thing like Felicity, The Bachelor and Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. I mean seriously obsessive, so much so I do not want to discuss it and scare people.
8. I feel bad for stuffed animals. I think they may be real inside and do get sad when their owners become adults and leave them. I think this stems from my love of the Corduroy, Velveteen Rabbit and Giving Tree books. When I remember to, I still say good night to my childhood bear Dee-O before bed so he knows I still think about him.
And those are the random and kinda freaky and insane things about me. Enjoy, and I swear I have no human heads in my fridge.

Stokey Makes A Guest Appearance
While Ms. Stokey Speedman (my BFF for those who don't know her) is working on getting her own blog up and running (I seriously can't wait!), she is guest appearing on my blog to post her Top 5 Fav songs (from a tag a couple posts ago). Take it away, Stokey...

For those of you who don't know me (I am sorry - your loss) a hearty hello and to those of you who do know me (your life is better off), hello, my babies!
Please note I write like I talk and that is like a 14 year old girl, oh and I have NO idea where a comma is supposed to go as you will see evidenced in the musing below.
D has been pestering me to restart my old blog anduttermadness.blogspot.com for some time now; however, the motivation to do so has been hiding. If I had to take a guess, I think it is hanging out with my motivation to work and get up in the mornings - both of which have been MIA for months. Anyway, I told her that if she posted my Top 5 songs as a courtsey post, I would get back on the old blogging bandwagon. So here are my Top 5 songs and the reason they are currently residing in said Top 5.
1. Could We by Ms. Kit Kat Power - this song makes me gleeful (is that a word?), I love the "brandt, brandt, neer" parts and this is also Fletcher James favorite Cat song so I thought I would give props to him seeing as I thought he was on his deathbed a mere 3 days ago.
2. Question by Old 97's - they used it in Scrubs - enough said! For those of you who "don't get Scrubs" you are not worthy of my time. That is like saying "I don't get Arrested Development or The Office" stop watching tv dummy and go eat dirt. [Amanda (D) interjects: "This song was also on a Dawson's Creek episode! And I've put it on several mix CDs that Stokes should be listening to..."]
3. Rally by Phoenix - I became obsessed with this tune a few weeks ago when it was in an episode of the extremely underrated Veronica Mars and am currently still obsessed. Hopefully, Phoenix will be around longer than Ronnie, RIP Ms. Mars! Boo hoo :(. Oh, and the lyrics stink, but I think it is a great little jam.
4. I Hear the Bells by Mike Doughty - again this is courtsey of Veronica Mars. It is a great little ditty by a chap with an amazing voice. It popped up on Penny (my iPod) while I was in hell (mowing the lawn) last week and has been in heavy rotation since.
5. That's Alright by Elvis - this is my favorite Elvis song ever! It is zippy and finger snapping fun. It was also in Man on the Moon which introduced me to one of the London Brother's (Jeremy or Jason not sure) back in the 90's before Party of 5 and I was a smitten kitten.
So that's it folks, thanks for allowing me to post my Top 5 here instead of there. Hope you enjoy!
P.S. I would like to give an honorable mention to Maroon 5 for their song Won't Go Home Without You (I think that it what it is called, 2nd song they played on SNL this past weekend). Yes Maroon 5, it is a great pop song and I am not ashamed to LOVE IT. Ok, well maybe a little. But not a lot.
